Bei Alleinarbeit ist die automatische Alarmierung wichtiger als die manuelle. Ist ein Arbeiter durch Gaseinwirkung oder einen Sturz handlungsunfähig, kann er keinen Knopf drücken.
Panikalarme und Totmannschalter
Moderne Alleinarbeitssicherheit basiert auf automatisierten, eindeutigen Alarmsignalen.

Neigungssensoren: Erkennen, ob ein Arbeiter von der Vertikalen in die Horizontale wechselt und dort für eine festgelegte Dauer (üblicherweise 30–60 Sekunden) verharrt.
